Tukastan was hit by an earthquake which registered 7.2 on the Richter scale in a morning on 12 September, at 03:32. The quake - followed by a 5.3-magnitude tremor - struck at a depth of 8 kilometres, approx. 30 km west of the city of Ugrigk (Ugrigk Mintaqa).
The Government of Tukastan has declared a State of Emergency.
On 13 September, the ETC deployed a team with a humanitarian mission to the affected areas in the Democratic Republic of Tukastan to support humanitarian organisations and partners with communication in response to the earthquake consequences, and assess the national telecommunications infrastructure to establish a secure communication system for humanitarians working in the area.
