Sorland

ETC Activities

Sorland is situated in the northern Archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic ocean and borders Vestland to the north-west and Ostland to the north-east. Across the Skagerrak Strait to the south is Danland. Area: 25,811 km2. Sorland consists of mountain ranges, fjords, lowlands, valleys, and coastal areas to the south.

Slightly more than half (51%) of Sorland’s population live in urban areas. Stavanger is Sorland’s capital and biggest city, with a population of 1.1 million. Kristiansand is Sorland’s second biggest city with a population of 500,000.

Sorland is vulnerable to floods due to heavy rainfall, often affecting the most vulnerable population in the southern coastal areas. The autumn months (September to November) see the heaviest rainfall, however rainfall is also common in the summer (June to August) and spring months (March to May). Heavy snowfall is known to create avalanches in the northern parts of Sorland during the winter months (December to February).
