Mali
Following a coup d’état in Bamako, the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC) was activated on 5th April 2012 to provide vital security communications and internet connectivity services to the community responding to urgent humanitarian needs.
After two years of operations, ETC functions were mainstreamed into normal operations of the humanitarian sysems. On 28 October 2014, the Humanitarian Coordinator (HC) asked the Emergency Relief Coordinator (ERC) to formally deactivate the ETC. As agreed by the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT), shared communications services continue to be provided to the humanitarian community operating in Bamako, Mopti, Gao and Timbuktu through a cost-sharing model.
