The Participation Revolution: Empowering Affected People
By 2020 more than 5 billion people will have access to mobile phones and more than 4 billion will have access to high-speed internet—well over half of the world’s population. Almost 3 billion people are expected to become regular users of social media, and already today the most frequent users of the internet are in the developing world. When a natural disaster or conflict takes place, humanitarian organizations must be able to leverage technology to respond more effectively and efficiently. The Humanitarian ICT Forum will examine the most important emerging topics at the nexus of technology and aid, including:
- Digital payments
- Data analysis
- Community engagement
