Costs and requirements 

There is no fee for the 6-week training course. At a minimum, participants will require a laptop (or equivalent) with access to a stable internet connection. The provision of eLearning through the WFP WeLearn Learning Management System is at no extra cost the individual or source organisation.  Live sessions will require adequate bandwidth as online meeting facilities will be utilised.    

Target Audience 

Humanitarian responders who are likely to deploy with the ETC or as part of other inter-agency ICT emergency responses. Applicants should be experienced professionals with some experience of operating in an emergency response environment and who are capable and committed to be deployed to or support ICT response to emergencies. 

  

SELECTION CRITERIA 

Pre-requisite: 

  • Humanitarian and emergency experience
  • Commitment to deploy
  • Project Management experience
  • Good inter-personal skills and a can-do attitude 

Please Note: 

  • Knowledge of ETC is desirable but not a pre-requisite
  • Applicants with some technical background/training will be prioritized 
      

Please note that: 

  • This is a remote programme and participants will be expected to be fully engaged and available for all elements of the course syllabus.  
  • Although the eLearning modules are self-paced, they link to subsequent sessions and must be completed by the scheduled dates, which will be communicated ahead of course commencement.
  • Live online sessions will require full attendance and absence from such events may result in lack of completion certificate for the participants.
  • All applicants should ensure that their respective management and immediate supervisors have endorsed their application and availability for the duration of the programme including the designated number of hours per week.
     

  

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Nomination Letter 

The nomination letter must meet the following requirements: 

•    Must come from a manager that is responsible for emergency IT and telecommunications across the applicant's organisation globally (for example, a CIO, Chief of IT, Regional IT Officer).  
•    Be written on organizational / company letterhead 
•    Full name, organization and position title of the candidate being recommended 
•    Full name, organization, and position title of the nominator 
•    Contact information of the nominator (email address / phone number) 
•    A statement indicating that the candidate will be available to undertake 4.5 hours of learning and periodic self study each week, for a period of 6 weeks, between 20 October to 28 November 2025  
•    A statement that expenses, if any, related to the training will be covered by the nominating organisation. 
•    Confirmation statement outlining at least ONE of the following: 
Experience in directly supporting deployment of ICT services in a humanitarian context 
Project management experience 
A statement indicating the likelihood / ability of the candidate being deployed to the field for an emergency in the future 
the candidate being deployed to the field for an emergency in the future 

Please note that prior to requesting a nomination letter from the designated nominating authority, you must engage with your supervisor for endorsement and approval of the training activity vis a vis your work profile, responsibilities and upcoming commitments.
