Bermuda

ETC Activities

Bermuda is a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic, located approximately 1,050 kilometres east of North Carolina. It comprises seven main islands and 170 islets and rocks, with a total land area of 54 square kilometres. The population is around 64,000, centred in the capital, Hamilton. The economy is driven by international finance and tourism, with a GDP per capita exceeding US$120,000—among the highest globally.

Telecommunications are supported by multiple submarine cables and modern infrastructure. Mobile services are provided by One Communications, Digicel, and Paradise Mobile, all offering 4G LTE and 5G coverage across the islands.

Emergency telecommunications during disasters are coordinated by the Emergency Measures Organisation under the Ministry of National Security, with technical support from the Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation Team. They collaborate with the Bermuda Weather Service and Maritime Operations Centre to issue critical alerts and updates. Regional coordination is maintained through the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), and in large-scale emergencies, support may be requested from the WFP-led Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC).
