The Bahamas is an Atlantic archipelago comprising around 700 islands, located southeast of Florida and north of Cuba, with a total land area of 13,880 square kilometres. Its population of approximately 400,000 is largely urban and concentrated in the capital, Nassau. The economy is primarily driven by tourism and financial services.

Telecommunications are regulated by the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA). The two main mobile operators—BTC (Bahamas Telecommunications Company) and Aliv—offer 4G LTE services, with BTC also providing limited 5G coverage. Connectivity is strong across major islands but remains uneven in remote areas.

Disaster telecommunications are coordinated by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), with regulatory support from URCA. BTC and Aliv play key roles in ensuring network resilience during emergencies. The Bahamas maintains regional coordination through the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), and in large-scale emergencies, support may be requested from the WFP-led Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC).
